"They are a passionate cricket nation and I expect the Afghanistan A team to compete strongly" - Lorgat

"One man's loss is another's gain" they say. This can be applied here: as Afghanistan (A) have been roped in to replace the Australia A side which pulled out of the scheduled triangular series scheduled to be played in South Africa later this month.

The Australia A side pulled out of the triangular series as the pay dispute between Cricket Australia and Australian Cricketers' Association reared its ugly head. Now Cricket South Africa have brought in Afghanistan who were recently granted Test status by the ICC.

"We are delighted that Afghanistan have accepted our invitation and look forward to welcoming them to our country for the very first time," commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat. "Afghanistan were deservedly granted Full Member status at the ICC annual conference last month after showing impressive growth in recent years.

"They are a passionate cricket nation and I expect the Afghanistan A team to compete strongly against our A team and India A in the upcoming tri-series," noted Lorgat.

"We are very pleased to accept Cricket South Africa's invitation to participate in the upcoming triangular series," commented Afghanistan Chief Executive, Shafiqullah Stanikzai. "This will be our first-ever visit to South Africa and I am certain that this will give Afghanistan 'A' team very good exposure to competitive cricket."

India A is the third side in the triangular series. They are scheduled to play two four-day games against South Africa A on their trip. The four-day matches follow the triangular series which starts on the 26th of July, with the final happening on 8th August.

India A then play their four-day games, with the first one starting on the 12th of August at Willowmoore Park, Benoni.
